Charles Hasler Collection acquired

Following the closure of the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture, Middlesex University and the University of Reading are pleased to announce that ownership of the Charles Hasler Collection will be transferred to the University of Reading Special Collections.
This material was the working collection of designer and typographer, Charles Hasler (1908-1992), who played a significant role in many high-profile exhibitions, displays, and poster campaigns in Britain from the mid-1930s to the mid-1980s. Hasler was interested in the newly-emerging field of packaging and branding and in the role of typographical design. His collection reflects his keen interest in all kinds of printed material and includes postcards, playbills, sheet music, packaging and posters dating from the nineteenth century onwards.
The Charles Hasler Collection will therefore make a great contribution to Reading’s existing holdings, that include the Archive of British Publishing and Printing. The University of Reading is grateful for the support of The National Archives for providing support for the transfer of the collection.
Discussions about other parts of the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture’s collections are still ongoing, and further announcements will be made in due course.
The Charles Hasler Collection will be available for consultation at the University of Reading in due course. Please contact specialcollections@reading.ac.uk with any enquiries.
