Several archaeologists represented in the Ure Museum’s archives, including Annie Ure and Percy Ure, conducted extensive travels through Europe in the earlier part of the 20th century. Between notebooks from museum visits and diaries to travel postcards and receipts, our archives therefore evidence pioneering travelers in a world that looked very different from our own.
These archives are also relevant to multilingualism and the evolution and adoption of modern languages, such as Greek and Arabic, just as our archaeological collections are relevant to multilingualism in antiquity.
