Stanford, Eric
Date: 1932-2020
Sculptor Eric Stanford studied Fine Art at the University of Reading between 1953 and 1955; whilst also working as an assistant to prolific war artist Eric Kennington. He went on to work as a lecturer at Berkshire College of Art from 1961-1967 and as the Keeper of Art at Reading Museum and Art Gallery between 1968 and 1989.
The University Art Collection holds two of his smaller stone sculptures, along with a number of preparatory drawings from Reading’s Spanish Civil War Memorial. Recently reinstalled in the Forbury Gardens, this is among Stanford’s many public commissions.
