Gillmor, Robert

Date: 1936-2022

Ornithologist, artist, illustrator and author, Robert Gillmor studied at the University of Reading between 1954 and 1959. The grandson of Allen W. Seaby, Gillmor has followed closely in his grandfather’s footsteps when it comes to his passion for colour print, wildlife, and birds. A founder member of the Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA), he has been its secretary, chairman and president

Gillmor produced his first illustrated book, A Study of Blackbirds, whilst he was still a schoolboy. He embarked on a full-time career as a wildlife artist in 1965 and is renowned, above all, for his striking colour-linocuts.

The University Art Collection holds two artworks by Robert Gillmor.
