Beckett Collection: Artworks
The Beckett Collection at the University of Reading is the world’s largest collection of resources relating to the Irish novelist, playwright, theatre director and poet, Samuel Beckett. The collection originated in the Samuel Beckett Exhibition held in the University Library in 1971. This exhibition contained material donated by Beckett himself, as well as many of his friends and admirers.
An avid supporter of the visual arts, Beckett was also a friend to many painters and sculptors. The Beckett Art Collection includes framed works by Avigdor Arikha, Geer van Velde and Henri Hayden, presented by Beckett himself.
