Smith, Bob and Roberta

Date: b. 1963

Bob and Roberta Smith is included in the Art Collection under his birth name, Patrick Brill. His pseudonym ‘Bob and Roberta Smith,’ a name created during the brief period he worked with his sister, Roberta. He studied at the University of Reading and Goldsmiths College, London, as well as receiving a scholarship to the British School in Rome.  

After training as a sign painter in New York, Smith frequently depicts painted signs, slogans, and textual art.  

In 2013, Smith and several other artists founded the Art Party which calls for the Government to stop weakening art and design subjects in schools.  He advocates the importance of art and creativity in all areas of life.  

Smith is an Associate Professor at London Metropolitan University and course leader for the Master of Fine Arts programme. He also hosts a radio show and performs music.
