Historic Picture Loan Scheme

University Collection
Art Collections

Now defunct, the Historic Picture Loan Scheme was administered by the Fine Art Department and ran between c.1965-c.2010. It lent artworks to University patrons on an annual basis, for a nominal fee. The collection also represents an attempt to acquire and display artworks in public spaces around campus; to enhance its buildings and the student experience.

Including paintings and works on paper the scope of the Historic Picture Loan Scheme is impressive. It contains examples of printmaking practice from important artists, as well as many signed artist proofs.

Artists represented include Stephen Buckley, Sir Terry Frost, Julian Trevelyan, Patrick Brill (now known as Bob and Roberta Smith), and Charles Tunnicliffe.
