Doctoral Training Programme: What’s Not There? Absences in Collections

Covering everything from how to navigate collections to how to teach with them, this programme of in-person and virtual events introduces PhD students from any institution to collections-based research.

About this event

Explore techniques to research ‘against the grain’ and uncover marginalised stories.

Museum, art, archival and book collections reflect the values of those in power at a specific time in history. Hence, they tend to marginalise the lived experiences of those who were denied power. In this session academic researchers and collections professionals will explore recent projects and techniques for researching ‘against the grain’ to uncover marginalised and minoritised stories.
