Four globes, each painted in a different style, on black plinths.

A ground-breaking national art education project designed to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans and its impact, is being turned into a new Public Art Trail across Reading’s UK campuses.

The World Reimagined Globe Trail Project will see the University become the custodian of a number of unique painted Globes that were originally created as part of a national exhibition of 103 bespoke sculptures in 7 cities across the UK. The individual globes speak to one of nine themes, ranging from Mother Africa through The Reality of Being Enslaved and Echoes in the Present.

The University is working with staff, student and alumni networks and local community groups to shortlist which of the globes will become part of a permanent trail in Reading. It also offers the opportunity for individuals to donate towards the project, providing a unique opportunity for staff, students and visitors to the University to be inspired by these exceptional sculptures and to reflect upon the stories that inspired them.

Diversity, inclusivity and equality are at the heart of life at Reading. The World Reimagined trail will ask us to face our shared history and learn from it, so that we create a new future in which everyone in our community can say: I am seen.
