Following the latest Government restrictions, we have been thinking about how we can be as useful as we can to our researchers. While we will be continuing to provide access in the Art Collection Study Room for academic research and teaching, we are aware that not everyone will be able to visit in person.

To that end, we have complied a short list of resource links from across our website that you can access at home to aid you in your research.

Art UK – The online home for art in every UK public collection, Art UK is currently the best source to view images of a range of our collections of paintings, drawings and sculpture.

Virtual Reading Room – Launched in September 2020, our Virtual Reading Room (VRR) allows exploration of high quality digital versions of artworks, books and documents by registered users. It also contains items from The Museum of English Rural Life and the University’s Special Collections, as well as providing galleries of images for all to explore.

Collections A-Z – An alphabetized list of collections and artist biographies, by surname. This section of the website is a work-in-progress and currently updated weekly.

Online Exhibitions – Showcasing artworks through immersive online galleries, these displays and exhibitions predominantly focus on individual artists within the collections.

Collection Highlights – Providing a more detailed look at several different areas of the collection, typically concentrating on previous collecting initiatives.

And finally, if you are unable to find that you are looking for using any of these resources, please contact us.

One sitting on the left bank with his knees pulled up, another to his right ascending the bank, a third in the distance on the right, supporting himself on the bank, a fourth standing in the shrubbery in the distance.
