Sculptor Eric Stanford studied Fine Art at the University of Reading between 1953 and 1955; whilst also working as an assistant to prolific war artist Eric Kennington. He went on to work as a lecturer at Berkshire College of Art from 1961-1967 and as the Keeper of Art at Reading Museum and Art Gallery between 1968 and 1989.
The University of Reading Art Collection holds two of his smaller stone sculptures, along with a number of preparatory drawings from Reading’s Spanish Civil War Memorial. Recently reinstalled in the Forbury Gardens, this is among Stanford’s many public commissions.
