Eric Ravilious won scholarships to the Eastbourne School of Art (in 1919) and the Royal College of Art (in 1922). It was at the Royal College of Art that he met close friend Edward Bawden, who he later collaborated with on a series of murals at Morley College. Ravilious also studied under Paul Nash, who encouraged his wood-engraving and proposed Ravilious for membership of the Society of Wood Engravers in 1925.
A prolific artist who engraved over 400 illustrations during his lifetime, Ravilious created artworks for companies including the Lanston Corporation, the Golden Cockerel Press, the Curwen Press and the Cresset Press.
The University of Reading Art Collection holds one artwork by Eric Ravilious.
