Ouless, Walter William
Date: 1848-1933
Walter William Ouless studied at the Royal Academy Schools between 1865 and 1869. He started his career as a history painter before successfully switching to portrait painting, on the advice of Sir John E. Millais.
Ouless’ sitters include Charles Darwin, Thomas Hardy and Edward VII. He was elected an associate member of the Royal Academy in 1877, as well as becoming a Academician in 1881.
