John Hetherington’s ‘Readers’ Library’ is a collection of cheap hardback editions of both popular and classic novels, some 350 titles with 400 variant issues, c. 1921-1934.

The purpose of the series was to make classic novels more accessible to all by reproducing them in a cheap and affordable format. As a result, titles in the ‘Readers’ Library’ series sold in their thousands. Many of the titles in this series featured coloured, pictorial dust jackets, with wrap around artwork.

Associated Collections

Spines of books of WHS press cuttings and an inset of the front cover of Inventory of a Life Mislaid by Marina Warner
