We were delighted to welcome the Friends of the University to look at the Elizabeth Greig Collection of civil aviation ephemera. The first UK national airline, Imperial Airways, was created in 1924. Making use of items from the collection, we explored the last hundred years of civil aviation in Britain, from the glamour of flying to Paris in the 1920s, to the cheap and cheerful package holidays of the 1980s.

This significant collection in the Centre for Ephemera Studies contains hundreds of items related to airlines, airports, travelling by air. Dr Emma Minns curated a display of the material and introduced the collection. Her talk included an extract from a 1993 BBC radio interview with Elizabeth Greig about the collection: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p033jzct

Member of the Friends shared memories and information that added to what we knew about the material.
