Geology Collection
The University’s Geology Collection, part of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science on the Whiteknights Campus, is available for teaching use, researchers, and for loan to local schools and colleges.
The collection holds over 3,000 specimens of minerals and rocks. These can be searched online through the University’s collections catalogue; please choose ‘Geology Collection’ from the drop-down list.
Within the University Special Collections, a significant collection of geological books and papers, created by Professor Herbert Leader Hawkins (1887-1968), Professor of Geology at Reading from 1920 to 1952, are available to explore.
Enquiries regarding the Geology Collection should be sent to the Geology Collection’s Curator. Alternatively, discover the rest of the University’s collections.
