Responsibilities and research interests

Caroline Gould is responsible for leading the archive team and the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) and University of Reading, Special Collections Reading Room. She has worked at the MERL since 2002. Caroline is contributing to the AHRC funded Modernist Archives Publishing Project and has recently been working on delivering the AHRC Capabilities for Collections: Sustainable infrastructure for the digital shift project.

Caroline is currently Project Manager for a number of collections management externally funded projects from a variety of stakeholders including Landscape Institute and Penguin Random House.

Caroline’s professional and research interests include space management, teaching with collections, archival film and preservation management. Caroline is the MERL representative of the European Rural History Film Association and presented at the International Association of Agricultural Museums (AIMA) Conference in 2021.

Caroline teaches on the module EN1SL- Shelf Life. An introduction to English literature’s material dimension, this module is co-designed and co-taught with UMASCS and Department of English Literature colleagues, where collections based teaching is embedded in the module. Caroline also delivers teaching with collections sessions for a number of other departments including Museum Studies and History.
