Charles Mozley Illustrations Collection

Reference: CHARLES MOZLEY COLLECTIONDate: 1900sExtent: 100 books plus other items

Examples of work by Charles Mozley (1914-1991), one of the most talented, versatile, and prolific artists, illustrators, graphic designers, and print makers of the post-war period. The collection is searchable via the catalogue.

He became increasingly in demand as a book jacket designer and book illustrator, both in Britain and in the United States, and produced work for most of the leading English publishers. His many book jacket designs were perhaps the most public manifestation of his graphic design. As a book illustrator he produced work for about eighty different titles, including illustrations for over thirty children’s books which represent a distinct and substantial part of his oeuvre.

Mozley was at the height of his influence in the period from the early 1950s until the late 1970s, and has been described as one of the most spirited lithographers of the 1960s.

The collection comprises around 100 books illustrated by Charles Mozley; plus original artwork, exhibition catalogues, prints and miscellaneous items. In 2014, further books, prints and miscellaneous materials were received from David Knott, former Rare Books Librarian at the University of Reading.
